Creep back (25/07/10 12:03:24)
Forget about the medieval Danish kings (I read books by BS Ingemann (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingemann)as a boy and was bored. Tolkien, who might be drawing from related sources, was notorious for his boring lectures (I think it was Auden who complained about him).) Your life project may center on computer science - but there must be vast amount of unsolved real-world riddles for which the number crunching capacities of computer program may be of benefit to the planet and all that lives on it. (I am not saying that computer games or computer animation are useless.) Anyway, the real world is out there waiting. It takes a lot of textbook reading to build a base camp for an attempt to reach the ever-moving state-of-the-art. The Web isn't really a good tool for this - it is better suited for collecting the juicy bits and the spices. The icing of the cake, but not the cake itself. |
