Planning for the post-COVID-19 era (21/03/20 18:35:40) | Reply |
I think we need to summon the existing and potential sci-fi writers of today of writing scenarios for an economy-wise sustainable containment of COVID-19. How many victims of the virus? How many victims of starvation and violence; how many divorces and beaten children - and how to prevent those disasters? There is a Nobel Prize for literature waiting, I'm sure. OTOH: Oliver Sacks never got it. |

In Germany: A part of the yield will rot. As simple as that. A part of next year's crops won't even be seeded. Germany used to have 300,000 seasonal employees for the yield. As the borders are closed now (A pretty ridiculous measure towards the east European countries like Poland, but *not* vice versa), many crops just won't be harvested, probably especially asparagus or strawberries. I can't give any figures, though. Some clever farmers deliver stuff in their surroundings (which they are allowed to). |
